Andrew Fitness Questions #45 - Does sweating mean I'm burning more calories?

Hey guys, Andrew here.
A common question asked all the time is 'if I sweat more while I'm working out does this mean I'm burning more calories or working harder?'. It is a misconception where people think that they need to get into the gym and sweat as much as possible because this means that they're working hard and there must be burning more calories. I've even seen people go into the gym wearing hoodies, beanies, long pants even gloves while they're doing cardio or weight training, just to try to sweat as much as possible because they think they're going to be burning more calories. This is a misconception. There is no indication that sweating more means you are working harder or burning more calories. It's merely our bodies trying to cool itself down. In fact, if you're going into the gym wearing excess amount of clothes to sweat more, you're probably doing yourself more harm than good by putting your body into an overheated state. You'll have just as much of an effective workout when you're cool and not sweating as much.
