Cytopathology is an examination of cells. “Cyto “means cells. In a biopsy, we examine the entire tissues to try and make a diagnosis. In cytopathology it is different in that individual cells are examined and their morphology is assessed and it helps to diagnose certain conditions. There are several different types of cytological tests. In our hospital, we commonly do the fine needle aspiration cytology test. We do the cervical cytology test or the pap smear test, as it is commonly known and we also body fluid cytology.
