The U.S. Navy sent a USS McCambell-destroyer to-challenge-Russia in the Sea of Japan.
The USS McCambell, “sailed in the vicinity of Peter the Great Bay to challenge Russia’s excessive maritime claims, and uphold the rights, freedoms, and lawful uses of the sea enjoyed by the United States and other nations.
The Russian Navy’s Pacific-Fleet is headquartered in the eastern port city of Vladivostok, located in Peter the Great Bay the largest gulf in the East Sea (Sea of Japan).
Pacific Fleet stressed that freedom-of-navigation operation (FONOP) was “not about any one country nor are they about current events,” adding, “These operations demonstrate the United States will fly, sail and operate wherever international law allows. That is true in the Sea of Japan as in other places around the globe.”
